Volunteer in Nicaragua and Make a Difference While Learning Design Thinking – December 12th to 20th, 2015.

Who we are:

The Humanos Institute is a not-for-profit dedicated to marrying the mind of business with the heart of humanity to help transform lives of the poorest people on the planet. We do this by bringing together multi-disciplinary teams from industry, academia, public, and social sectors to co-create innovative, scalable, and sustainable solutions for the most pressing problems of our times.

The project:

The Humanos Institute (Humanos) is partnering with Global Brigades to bring a group of 12 volunteers to Nicaragua, where the team will be co-creating, along with the local community, a financial literacy program through the use of Design Thinking.

The goal of this project is to develop a financial literacy program which follows the core principles of human-centered design, setting the community’s needs and interest as the main priority. In turn a financial literacy program that ensures high adoption amongst the community members will be developed and then scaled throughout different communities in Nicaragua, Honduras and other countries throughout Latin America, impacting thousands of people.

This program will take volunteers through a rigorous Design Thinking training that will cover the core principles as well as some more advanced techniques. A hands-on approach will be the norm. Every day the team of volunteers will be introduced to new Design Thinking concepts that will later that day be applied in the community. The full Design Thinking process of Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test will be implemented this way. The volunteers will return home knowing that their efforts will transform the lives of some of the poorest people in the planet as well as with a new set of Design Thinking skills that can be applied across a wide range of projects, in a personal or professional environment.

The team will be staying at one of the residences managed by Global Brigades and will travel every day to the community El Naranjo to work on the project alongside the community members. Translators and community leaders will be part of the team and will act as key resources to develop rapport and have truly impactful results. Flights, accommodations and meals will be included in the registration fee. You can contact us at to receive a personalized fee depending on your location.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for sharp-minded individuals from any background, who are driven, energetic and team players. They must also be passionate about making a difference and willing to step outside of their comfort zone.

The trip will last 9 days, two weekends and five workdays, starting on December 12th and ending in December 20th of 2015.
